To mentor and develop the future soccer coaches for FC Durham Academy and for soccer in Canada. Providing the best learning environment possible for players to be nutured and developed.
To provide opportunities for former youth soccer players of both genders to gain education and guidance in the coaching profession.
To offer FC Durham Academy Teams with positive role models and mentors as the proceed through our player development pyramid.
The program will progress for a 1-2 year time period, based on the progress of the Apprentice Coach. FC Durham's Director of Coaching Development will determine when the Apprentice Coach is prepared to advance in coaching certification and education, as well as when they are prepared to assume different roles within the coaching staff.
19 to 30 years olds of both genders
Display a strong desire to coach or teach
Willing to make a commitment to attend practices, games, educational sessions, assessment sessions and require coaching courses.
Apprentice Coaches must complete OSA Learning to Train, Respect in Soccer and Making Ethical Decisions courses within the first year of the program. If the Apprentice Coach has already completed these courses, they will be progressed to the next potential course that fits their current stage. Course expenses will be paid by FC Durham Academy and the Apprentice Coach will be provided an FC Durham Academy Coaching Kit.
