Facility Safety

Facility Safety

In soccer the grounds and facilities need to be in good condition for the well-being and safety of the participants.  FC Durham Academy (FCD) team personnel must inspect the playing surface for all training sessions and games prior to starting to ensure the following:

  • Grass fields are free of holes and sprinkler heads are safe
  • All hazards on field have been removed – rocks, glass, garbage etc.
  • Benches and portable goals on the side are at a safe distance from the playing area
  • Corner flags are used for games and are 5 feet high without a pointed flag on the top

Team personnel are always expected to inspect the field prior to any training sessions or games and can report any concerns or issues to the appropriate Program Manager by using this sheet and sending via email.  Reporting issues such as the grass being too long, field not being marked appropriately based on the requirements of the game and the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) Development Matrix.

When FCD is hosting games for LTPD Development U8-U12 format such as 5v5,7v7,and 9v9, coaches will follow the guidelines on field sizes and use flat markers on turf fields to lay out touchlines, penalty areas, and retreat lines.  Using any natural lines when possible.
