FC Durham Academy Grassroots Philosophy

Grassroots - First Touch U4-U5

  • Practices are 45 minutes and games are 2x20 minutes.
  • Children are divided into teams of 5-8 with a coach per team.
  • Games are 4v4 with no Goalkeepers.
  • Practices - Children rotate around 4 Stations where they will spend 8-10 minutes at each station.
  • Practices - Stations are - Soccer Coordination, Soccer Skills, Basic Movements and Small Sided Games 3v3/4v4.
  • Every child has a ball as much as possible.
  • Basic ball familiarization games, rolling, bouncing, kicking and catching.
  • Emphasis on fundamental movement skills, running, hopping, jumping, skipping, tumbling - developing physical literacy.
  • FUN soccer activities.

Grassroots - Next Touch U6-U7

  • Practices are 60 minutes in length and games are 2x25 minutes.
  • Children are divided into teams of 5-8 with a coach per team.
  • Games are 4v4 with no Goalkeepers.
  • Practices - Children rotate around 4 Stations where they will spend 11-13 minutes at each station.
  • Practices - Stations are - Soccer Coordination, Soccer Skills, Basic Movements and Small Sided Games 3v3/4v4.
  • Every child has a ball as much as possible.
  • Emphasis on fundamental movement skills, running, hopping, jumping, skipping, tumbling - developing physical literacy.
  • Stimulating learning environment where the atmosphere is freedom and FUN.
  • All children active at all times.
